First Day of School

I feel like I blinked and then summer was over. Usually by the end of summer I am so ready for school to start so we can get back into a better routine. I felt like this summer we stayed on a pretty good schedule (with the exception of Harvey napping) that I don't think we were as ready for summer to end.
Addie is in 7th grade this year! It's so crazy to have her in middle school with eight classes. She was a little nervous going in, mainly being able to find classes and such. Luckily the Friday before school started was 7th grade day, so they got a little test run before the rest of the kids started.

Demzi is in 5th grade with Mrs Burton. She was excited so excited to get Mrs Burton! Demzi is the reason each kid ended up having their own back to school photo shoot. She said Mrs Burton had her students take their picture with the Utah Utes sign so Kris made them all practice making the Y showing they are true fans, then they each wanted to show me what they learned on their way out the door.

Liam is in 3rd with Mrs. Burgoyne. We didn't know much about her going in, but so far so good. He was mainly excited that he has a couple friends from last year in his class.

Tad is in 1st with Mrs Redd. He was both excited and nervous that he gets to go to school all day.

Harvey is in preschool again and his teacher is Mrs Spray. We decided to go to the preschool at the elementary school this year and he loves being at the school with the big kids and to be in the class right next to Liam. Harvey started a week after the other kids. He was so excited all week long and then the night before school started he decided that he would stay home with me instead. Luckily he went the next day no problem, if a little nervous, and loved it.

Last Swim Day of the Summer

We were able to go to the pool 1-2 times a week during the summer. On our last trip before school started Addie convinced me that she really needed to try dipping dots. She was sure that she is the only person in seventh grade to have never tried them. I finally gave in and bought one of them to share. I think I made their summer right there.

Salem Family Fun Run

We decided to the Salem fun run again with our kids this year. We headed into the summer planning on it so we were a little better prepared. We just wanted something to keep the kids active in the summer so our only goal was to have the kids improve from how they did last year and they all beat their time which we were all happy about it. Harvey even ran it this year. Kris stayed back with him and I stuck with Tad, while everyone else just kept their own pace and we met up at the end.

Everyone's times and places were as follows;
Kris- 17:03(5th)
Teresa- 8:50 (1st)
Addie- 8:51 (2nd 6 seconds faster than last year)
Demzi- 10:48 (7th 3 minutes better than last year)
Liam- 8:16 (3rd 30 seconds faster than last year)
Tad-8:51 (1st 2 minutes better than last year)
Harvey- 17:04 (14th)

Summer Randoms

Harvey got this hat on vacation and loved it. He kept telling me, "I have a Captain America hat, my friend Will should get hulk hat."
My kids are soooo into Legos right now. Everyday during quiet time they would play and had a huge town set up on the girls' floor.
 "Look mom! I'm a rhino!"
This is how Harvey decided to go to sleep one night.
Tad headed into the summer napping and while I understand there are not many six year olds that nap, towards the end of the summer it became apparent that he still really needed a little extra sleep. He got to a point where it was definitely hard to function through.
More summer creativity. Demzi built a house out of dominos.

Harvey was playing at Kris's parents house, chasing a balloon when he tripped. He caught himself but somehow ended up having his arms give out and cracking down right on his head. It became an instant goose egg and he was beside himself. We left shortly after that and he didn't even make it out of the driveway before he was asleep.
Harvey is a little mischievous. I looked out the window in time to see him spraying an entire bottle of sunscreen at some imaginary ninja. When I went out to take it away he was crying because it had gotten in his eye. We came in and put the wash cloth over his eye and he lay there smiling because he was sure this "mask" made him a ninja now.
Lazy summer days where the kids spent the whole morning doing origami.
My kids love reading. We really tried in the summer to make a weekly trip to the library but we weren't always good about it. Demzi was feeling so sad about being out of reading material that she BEGGED me to please just take her after our neighborhood party. She was the happiest I'd seen her, leaving the library with her bag bursting with books.

At Harvey's four year appointment they did his kindergarten shots. Then, because he was so brave, they gave him these cool sunglasses as a reward. He  wore them the whole way home, even while sleeping.

The next day he had his typical reaction to shots. He has always been my one to get really miserable after vaccinations but it'd been so long since his last set I'd completely forgotten. It wasn't until he kept telling me he was cold and tired that I realized how fevered he was. He had a fever of 101 off and on that day and then he was back to his normal happy self.
We are really working on getting Harvey to dress himself. He totally can he just doesn't most days, he says it's hard or he wants help, and then I give in and do it because we are in a hurry.

It's funny how all that changes when he wants to wear long sleaves, I say it's too hot, so miraculously guess who knows how to dress himself.
Kris found a Pokeman book for $2. He decided to buy it because the boys had a few cards and little did we know what kind of hit it would be. They spent days studying it and marking which ones they had and which ones they wanted.

Happy Birthday Harvey!

Happy Birthday Harvey!
Waiting for Harvey's birthday is like torture! He is at the end of a long line of summer birthdays so he gets really excited when it is finally his turn.

His birthday was a lot of fun. He is so obsessed with alligators right now that it was a lot of fun to shop for him and find fun stuff. He ended up with an alligator remote control car, an alligator watch, a headlamp (his request), Legos (from Bensons), and a scooter (from Thompsons). He was so excited about all of it and felt completely spoiled.

On his birthday he went to itty bitty ball in the morning and then came home and played with water balloons.

Then when dad got home we had dinner and then cake. He had specifically requested a shark cake that he was so excited about all day as he watched me make it. By the time we were done with presents though he was having so much fun with his toys that he told me I could blow out the candles.

Harvey is at such a fun age. He is learning a ton, he has made leaps and bounds in speech.  All he wants to do is play all day and has such a good imagination. He is a little more anxious as time goes on. This year he moved in to share a room with Tad since he was afraid of being by himself at night, and tends to be more cautious about things until he is comfortable. His stats this year:
Height: 39.8in (39%)
Weight: 35lbs (42%)

Cavities

Both Tad and Harvey had two cavities at their checkups this summer. We have been lucky enough to pretty much avoid cavities up until this point so it was kind of a bummer to have four in one visit.

They were really recommending that I sedate Harvey. Besides being expensive, that seemed to come with it's own complications, so we decided to try it with just the gas and numbing and hope that he was fine. He was so into PJ Masks he never even flinched! They did everything and would ask if he was okay and he just kept watching his show. At the end of the visit the dentist asked me how old he was and said, "He is the best three year old I have ever worked on!"
They told me Tad's were shallow enough they didn't even need to numb him, which made me nervous but with the gas and being able to watch a movie they didn't numb him and he was totally fine!
Glad we were able to get them all fixed and no one was traumatized in the process.

First Dentist Trip for Harvey

I took Harvey for his first dentist check up at the beginning of July. He was excited to finally be able to get the goodie bag like all the big kids (new toothbrush, floss, tooth paste and prize). He sat right down and settled in to watch his movie. Unfortunately, we found out he had two cavities to get filled but luckily he seemed to like the dentist.
