Snowflakes That Stay on my Nose and Eyelashes

We almost had a White Christmas. The first snowfall of the season happened just days after the holiday and we gladly welcomed the beautiful white flakes since we didn't get any accumulation last year. I figure if it's going to be 30 degrees outside, might as well have something to show for it. Being bundled and playing in the snow, followed by a nice, warm cup of hot chocolate {with lots of mini marshmallows} is one of my favorite winter pastimes. Waking up to a snow covered yard was even more exciting this year with Eli experiencing it for the first time :)

House Divided

It's Game Day and we live in a divided household. The UK/UofL rivalry is intense but husband and I like to stay above the fray. There's not many of us willing to root for the other's team, but we genuinely love basketball and want to see college hoops thrive in these parts. Yesterday Andrew and I were interviewed for a segment on WHAS focusing on the rivalry within a home. Thanks to Michelle Arnold {sorority sister and friend} who did the story on us and the Raias. Kinda fun having Eli and Cruz make their TV debut together. Eli is still undecided and wears both colors proudly; I can't help it if blue brings out his eyes ;)

Throwback Thursday

I've been skiing the slopes in Colorado ever since I can remember. My parents put us in ski school and we learned from our instructors. Kari and I were usually in the same class, which made it more fun. I used to be fearless and weave in and out of trees and jumps. Now I prefer groomed trails that don't require icing of my knee later in the day. The hot chocolate after the last run is still my favorite tradition!

Lucky Number 7

Eli is seven months old and is as active as ever. In the past month, the kid has conquered the act of passing objects from hand to hand, pulling up and crawling. He began crawling with the tiniest scoot and it was literally a matter of days before he darted across the room. He now bolts directly toward Hurley's dog food every time I put him down. E's a fast little bugger and requires a lot of energy and a watchful eye. He keeps me busy to say the least. Poor kid has bruises on his knees due to his high activity level. He is pulling up on everything {chairs, walls, dog cage, people} and really likes the standing position. He is strong and can hold himself up without needing to rest. The ottoman is his favorite place to test his skills. He's even begun trying to walk around it, which has provided some minor falls. Resilience is his middle name though and he refuses to stay down for long.

Eli has known his name now for a couple of weeks. He turns in the direction when someone calls to him and usually meets their voice with a smile. I've been told by many people that my kid doesn't know a stranger. He's friendly and I guess that's a good thing. His favorite games are hiding ones, which produce lots of sweet little giggles. He's ticklish, too. E is really smart and very interested in his surroundings. He understands the concept of cause/effect~ he pulls the doorstop just to hear it vibrate and drops toys purely to hear the loud bang. Mealtime is going well and he likes most food {bananas, pears, sweet potatoes and apples are faves}. Next up are carrots, peas and green beans so we'll see how he does with veggies. Our little man is still sleeping well; we think mainly because he plays so hard and wears himself out. We're thankful for such a good sleeper and a happy, laid back baby. He gets more fun each day and we're so blessed!

Throwback Thursday

Couldn't resist another sibling photo with Santa. I'm a little surprised we're all smiling and think our matching sweatshirts are pretty stellar.

Fa La La La La

I always look forward to our annual Christmas potluck. It's a time to catch up with old friends and make new memories. Andrew and I love opening our home and are blessed with lots of good friends. This year the party was a little thinner than most {the nasty bug going around town caused a few cancellations}. Nonetheless, we gathered to celebrate the holiday season and enjoyed our time together.  I appreciate the potluck aspect of the party and also love the tradition of an ornament exchange. Both are great reminders of another successful year of blessings and friendships. With the help of a sound machine, Eli slept through the fun going on downstairs. Thankful for a little man who sleeps. And a special thanks to my out~of~towners who made the trip. The night really was such a joyful time. We love you all!

Tis the Season

"The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear!"

I love this time of year~ crisp air, smiling faces, holiday decorations, bright lights, Christmas music, peppermint mochas, presents under the tree, cozy fires, delicious meals, God's amazing love, cookies galore, matching pjs...

We have been busy getting our house in mint condition for our annual Christmas party. The tree is up and the halls are decked. Little man loves looking at the lights, but I'm a little concerned he will grab the tree. He already pulled his little one over. He is into everything these days so it'll be interesting to see how much I can keep up through the holidays.

Go Tell It on the Mountain

My talented friends, Dave Moisan and his wife, Allie, put this little song arrangement together for the holidays. So much soul and so much fun!

Throwback Thursday

My parents put up a full~size lighted nativity each year and it's always been my job to help my dad hang the star. We used to have to climb on top of an SUV to reach this particular branch {which has been the star's home for years now} but use a ladder now. The branch keeps getting lower and lower; I'm afraid the star will be on the horizon soon.

We're in Trouble

A few days ago I put Eli in his crib and left the room for a sec; I came back to baby boy standing up! Luckily we decided to lower the crib about two weeks ago when I noticed him trying to pull up on items {ottoman, kitchen chairs} around the house. Every time I put him down now, he shows me his standing ability before bed.

From the very beginning, Eli has been a strong baby. He lifted his head days after he was born and sat up on his own rather quickly. E has already mastered the grab and stand. He even tried to scale the kitchen walls.

The kid doesn't waste any time. Literally days after he started pulling his knees into his belly, he was crawling. He isn't interested in sitting still and loves being on the go. We call him our Wiggle Worm. Needless to say, I've been extremely busy and the baby proofing has begun!

Because of a Baby

Knowing that Jesus Christ humbled himself to come to earth as a newborn baby has always been an important part of the Christmas story. He could have just snapped his fingers just the same. However, our gracious heavenly Father sent His son to this world so that we may know him better and ultimately become our Savior.

The story of Christmas is not only important because Jesus came to earth. It's important because of who Jesus is~ God's only son. What a blessing it is to know that the Messiah entered the world just as you and me. It's hard to imagine what baby Jesus meant to the wise men, shepherds, and others who came to honor him. I can't fathom visiting the King of Kings in a stable. What an unexpected way to bring glory to his Father. Jesus' humble birth was just the beginning of his life on earth, preparing a way for believers to live eternally with God. The Christmas story is also important because of what Jesus did~ died on a cross so that we may have eternal life in heaven. His sacrifice was necessary so our sins would be washed away. Ultimately, because of a baby, we have been saved. Thank you, Jesus.

Isaiah 9:6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

29 and Counting...

As I approach the big 3-0 I have spent some time reflecting on three decades of life. I've been blessed with a beautiful family, wonderful friends, and amazing adventures. I am convinced now more than ever that age is just a number and purely what you make of it. And, I still feel young at heart. I've learned many valuable lessons along the way and know that I'm a better person because of the struggles I've encountered. Through life's ups and downs, God has molded me into who I am today. Looking back, I am thankful for the challenges that have built my character, opportunities that have widened my worldview, and friendships that have strengthened myself as a person. My life experience and faith have provided the confidence for who I am as a wife, mom, sister, daughter, friend, neighbor and so much more. I'm a little nervous about leaving my 20s behind next month, but really excited about what the future holds :)

Throwback Thursday

Did your parents dress you and your siblings in matching outfits? My sisters and I protested each year, to no avail. And honestly, now that I have kids, I'm planning on doing the same thing. It's just so cute ;)

Norton Expansion

We are so excited about the news of Andrew's brother and his wife expecting their first baby next spring! Eli will have a cousin on the Norton side, which promises to be lots of fun at family events and holidays. Praying for a safe pregnancy for Taylor and healthy growth of baby Greta!
