The Quote Wall.

I really like to read. I really love words. And I am very inspired by a well-turned phrase. I also have very strong beliefs about what I think is important in life and what I want my kids to know.

 

And I have this big wall that needed some décor...

 

But since it is located in the main thoroughfare of the house and across from the "playroom," I didn't want to put anything too fragile or foofy on it. (Yes, foofy is a word in my world).

 

So... I figured it was a perfect place for some of my very favorite quotes! They're made out of vinyl and stuck to the wall so they won't break. Having them grouped together to cover an entire 9 foot by 9 foot space is a pretty powerful statement. And the hope is that if my kids read these enough over the next few years that the words will start to sink in. Plus, it just looks cool. :)

My sister-in-law makes custom vinyl signs as a side business so I enlisted her to help me. Had I tried to have this professionally done, it probably would have cost more than my car, but seeing as how she is family and a very very nice person, I managed to create a whole statement wall for a very reasonable price.

 

She let me use her computer program to lay out all the quotes the way that I wanted. I choose the size, font, and placement of each quote and saved the whole project. Then she went to work. She printed out the whole wall in 3.5 huge sheets. Each one was about 30 inches tall by the length of the wall. She brought them over and between her, Nate, my mother-in-law, and me, we managed to get them all put up in one morning (and it's not even crooked!). :)

I love love love having some of my favorite words on my wall! I chose quotes from my favorite writers, speakers, books, songs, and scriptures. I could probably have covered my whole house in great statements, but I chose the ones that mean the most to me and provide a good "sampling" of my beliefs. I'm quite pleased with the results and I love having these great quotes as a part of my home.
