As part of remembering September 11, 2001, we spent our morning at the Climb for a Calling event.
ABOUT THE CAUSE
On September 11, we watched in horror as the events of that day unfolded. Ultimately, 343 first-responders lost their lives as they did what they do every day…work tirelessly to save lives, despite the risk.
In the years following the attacks, firefighters across the county organized memorial stair climbs, each participant paying tribute to a lost first-responder by climbing or walking the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center, marking sacrifice of an FDNY brother, but also symbolically completing their heroic journey to save others.
Members of our Armed Forces also work tirelessly to save lives, despite the risk. And countless numbers of civilians have them to thank for ensuring that America still stands STRONG and FREE.
Climb for a Calling is open to all those individuals who want to pay tribute to and honor those who have given their lives in the line of duty…whether they be Veterans or First-Responders.
Join us on September 11 at Climb for a Calling, symbolically climbing for someone you choose to honor for their sacrifice in the line of duty.
Where does the money that is raised go?
In 2016, the benefitting organizations are
Sons of the Flag,
the Parkland Foundation,
the Recovery Resource Council,
the Krodle Memorial Foundation, and
Stay the Course Veteran Services.
The Krodle Memorial Foundation was chosen as one of the beneficiaries. The girls and I helped at the booth while Tim participated in the climb.
Hi Lana, are you in there?
After Tim got on his gear, he set off to climb 110 stories! His gear adds over 50 extra pounds.
This is the building he climbed. It is only 40 stories, so participants climbed it 2 1/2 times to total the 110 stories. It really made me imagine how tall the World Trade towers were and what a frightening horrific day it was 15 years ago.
The girls got to pass out completion medals to the finishers!
The best medal they passed out was for their Daddy!
We were truly grateful to be able to honor and remember this day as a family and as part of such a worthwhile cause. We are also very proud of Tim for always challenging himself with the integrity and memory of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
