Hello! I'm the creator of the YouTube series “Abacus Japan Master in 100 Days.”
On note, I’ll be sharing easy-to-understand explanations using text and images.
In #0, I’ll introduce the concept of the series and share some behind-the-scenes stories.
そもそもYouTube「100日後にそろばん完全マスター！」って？ -What is "Abacus Japan Master in 100 Days"?-
YouTube「100日後にそろばん完全マスター！」は、名前のとおり100日でそろばんを完全にマスターできる、といった内容のシンプルな動画です。
100回の動画を順番に見ることで、そろばんと暗算を基礎から1級・段位までできるようになります。
日本語での解説がメインですが、英訳もつけているので、海外の方も見れるようになっています。
また、子どもが率先してそろばんの動画を見ることはほとんどないでしょうから、お子さんのいる親御さんや学び直したい大人向けで作成しています。
もちろん、怪しいチャンネルではないので、お子さんにも一緒に見てもらって大丈夫な内容です。
YouTubeの主は、多数のそろばん教室での勤務経験があり、今まで500人以上の生徒を指導してきました。
現在は、別分野の制作業を本業としながら、プロとしてフリーでオンラインそろばん指導にも携わっています。
As the name suggests, “Abacus Japan Master in 100 Days” is a simple YouTube series where you can fully master abacus and mental math in 100 lessons—from the basics to the top level (1st kyu).
The lessons are mainly in Japanese, but with English subtitles for international viewers.
It's designed for parents with kids or adult learners who want to study again, rather than for children to watch alone.
The channel is safe and family-friendly.
The creator has taught over 500 students at a major abacus school and now teaches online as well.
YouTube「100日後にそろばん完全マスター！」を始めた経緯 -Why I Started "Abacus Japan Master in 100 Days"-
以下は、YouTube「100日後にそろばん完全マスター！」を始めたざっくりとした経緯です。
外国人がしっかり学べるそろばんのYouTubeが少ない
勉強科目と違ってそろばんはAIから解説を受けられない
そろばん教室の経営が傾いている
そろばんのYouTubeチャンネルが飽和状態
順番に解説していきます。
Here’s a quick overview of why I started this YouTube series:
Few quality abacus videos are available for non-Japanese speakers
Unlike school subjects, abacus can't be easily taught by AI
Traditional abacus schools are struggling to stay afloat
The abacus content on YouTube is becoming saturated
I’ll explain each point in more detail below.
外国人がしっかり学べるそろばんのYouTubeが少ない -Few Abacus Videos for Foreign Learners-
そろばん関連のYouTubeはたくさんあるのですが、海外の方の解説動画は、日本のそろばんのやり方と異なっているものが多いです。
正しい指づかいじゃなかったり、クセのある置き方をしていたりするので、「これでは身につかなくてもったいないなあ…」と思っていたのでした。
日本人が解説しているそろばんのYouTubeでも、翻訳機能があるとはいえ正確なものではないので、外国人が正しいそろばんのやり方をYouTubeでマスターするのは厳しいのでは？と感じていました。
そこで、シンプルな英訳もつけることで、海外の方もそろばんの正しいやり方を学べるのではと思い立ち、英訳を記した動画を作成しています。
また、そろばんはほかの人気の習い事（例：ピアノやプログラミング、英会話など）と違って、日本で広く普及しているものなので、日本の文化としてそろばんを広めるのにもYouTubeが良いと考えています。
There are many abacus videos on YouTube, but those made by non-Japanese often show techniques that differ from the traditional Japanese style—like incorrect finger use or unusual bead placement.
Even Japanese videos with auto-translation aren’t accurate enough for foreign learners to master it properly.
So I decided to add simple English subtitles to my videos, making it easier for non-Japanese speakers to learn the correct method.
Also, unlike popular lessons like piano or coding, abacus is a uniquely Japanese tradition—YouTube is a great way to share this part of our culture with the world.
勉強科目と違ってそろばんはAIから解説を受けられない -Abacus Can’t Be Easily Taught by AI-
たとえば、数学の証明などでわからない問題があれば、AIに聞いてしまえばすぐ答えがわかるようになりました。
塾で先生にわざわざ教えてもらわなくても、AIをうまく使えばなんでも解決してしまいます。
しかし、そろばんの解説を受けるにはビジュアル面が重要で、AIから言葉だけで説明を受けてもチンプンカンプンなことが多いでしょう。
勉強科目と違って、AIから解説を受けられないのが「そろばん」の強みです。
そろばんをAIのように気軽に自宅で学習するには、実際に正しい手元を見れる動画やオンライン授業での解説がわかりやすいと考えます。
For subjects like math, you can now ask AI for help and get instant answers—even without a tutor.
But abacus learning relies heavily on visuals, like finger movements and bead positioning.
Text-only explanations from AI don’t work well.
This is actually a strength of abacus—it can’t be replaced by AI.
To learn it properly at home, clear videos showing correct hand movements or online lessons are the most effective.
そろばん教室の経営が傾いている -Abacus Schools Are Struggling-
主は、子どもの数が多い教育の盛んな地域でのそろばん塾で指導していた経験があります。
しかし、少子化や習い事の過多などで、実際にそろばん教室に通う生徒はどんどん減っていっているのを目の当たりにしてきました。
一見流行っている教室に見えても、実際のところどこも生徒数は減っているのが現状です。
TVでそろばん教室が人気だと取り上げられることもありますが、全体としてはリアル教室の運営は厳しい面もありますので、今後はオンラインや新しい形の学びが求められる時代になるでしょう。
とはいえ、よく言われていることなのでここではあえて深くは話しませんが、そろばんは「計算力」だけでなく「非認知能力」や「情報処理能力」などのさまざまな能力が身につき、「左脳」と「右脳」の両方を鍛えられる、お得なツールです。
主としましては、そろばん教室を経営しているわけではないので、教室に通わなくても良いから、みなさんにそろばんを自宅でゲーム感覚で気軽に身につけて、計算力以外にも多くの能力を身につけてほしい、という思いに至り、YouTubeをすることになります。
I used to teach at a major abacus school in a highly competitive education area.
But due to declining birthrates and too many extracurricular options, student numbers have been dropping.
Even popular-looking schools are actually losing students.
While abacus schools are sometimes featured on TV as being popular, operating physical classrooms can be challenging overall. This suggests that in the future, online and new types of schools will be in demand.
That said, I won’t go into detail here—but abacus helps build not just calculation skills, but also non-cognitive abilities and information processing. It trains both the left and right brain.
Since I don’t run a physical school myself, I wanted to create a way for people to enjoy learning abacus at home—like a fun game—while gaining a wide range of skills. That’s why I started the YouTube channel.
そろばんのYouTubeチャンネルが飽和状態 -Abacus Channels Are Saturated-
しかし、そろばんのYouTubeチャンネルはすでにたくさんあり、いわゆる飽和状態です。
そろばんを学ぶにあたり「一体どの動画を見れば良いのだろうか」と、いろいろ見てみるものの、動画の時間が長くて結局続けて学習しなくなってしまったり、自分で学びたい内容の動画をすぐに見つけるのは難しかったりするなどの問題があります。
そこで、わかりやすく100回の動画を見たら1級・段位までできるようになる、これさえ見ればそろばんと暗算が完璧にできるようになる、というとにかくシンプルで体系的な動画を作ることにしました。
そろばんのやり方をなんとなく知っている方や復習で使いたい方は、途中から該当する動画だけ見るのでも問題ありません。
100日全部見なくても、該当する動画だけ見ればやり方を掴めるようにも解説しているので、中には「前にもこの説明聞いたよ」というような若干くどい説明もあるかと思いますが、どうぞお許しください。
1本長くても10分ほどの動画にしているので、続けて何本も見てみるのもよし、1日1本見るのもよしで、その辺りはお任せです。
ちなみに、効率よく学べるように、かけ算はすべて「両落とし」というもっとも速く答えを出せる方法で解説しています。（両置き・片落としの解説は省いています）
また、そろばんの検定試験の中でも社会的な評価の高い「日本珠算連盟（日商＝日本商工会議所）」の級レベルに合わせて解説しています。（全国珠算教育連盟や日本計算技能連盟などの級レベルとは若干異なります）

There are already many abacus channels on YouTube, making it hard to know which videos to watch.
Some are too long, hard to follow consistently, or don’t match what learners are looking for.
That’s why I created a simple, easy-to-follow series: watch all 100 videos, and you’ll master abacus and mental math up to the top level (1st kyu).
If you already know the basics or want to review, you can jump in at any point—each video stands on its own.
Some explanations may feel repetitive, but that’s to make sure no one misses important points.
Each video is under 10 minutes, so you can watch one a day or several at once—whatever suits you.
For efficiency, all multiplication is taught using the fastest method, called “ryō-otoshi”, while other slower methods are skipped.
The content is based on the standards of the Japan Abacus League (Nissho), the most widely recognized abacus exam system in Japan.
YouTube「100日後にそろばん完全マスター！」のこだわりとまとめ -Final Notes and Details-
最後に余談ですが、YouTube「100日後にそろばん完全マスター！」において地味にこだわりがあります。
そろばんの古い感じをなくし、むずかしい用語も一切使っていません。
50日目までの前半戦はポップに、51日目からの後半戦はシックな雰囲気の動画にし、初心者から上級への道のりを実感できるようにしています。
ほか、100日でそろばんと暗算を完璧に身につけられるよう、すっきりとしたシンプルな動画を目指しているので、雑談やいらないものを省くようにしています。
たとえば、時計や指輪は外すか映らないようにし、服の裾もなるべく視界に入らないように気をつけています。
説明が長くならないよう、事前に台本を作って読んでいますが、特に最初の方の動画はゆっくりめで読んでしまっているので、二倍速でも良いかと思います。
日が経つにつれて、話すスピードを速めて、声色も明るめに変えているので、その辺りもお楽しみください。
また、コンテンツを充実させるため、更新のスピード感も大切にしています。2025年の1年で、100回分の動画を完成させます。

Lastly, here are some small but intentional touches in “Abacus Japan Master in 100 Days.”
I follow the motto “Do things differently”, focusing on originality. To break the stiff image of abacus learning, we avoid difficult terms. The first 50 videos are light and pop, while from Day 51 the tone shifts to a chic style, so viewers can feel the journey from beginner to advanced.
To keep the videos clean and focused, I avoid small distractions like background talk or visible accessories (e.g. watches, rings, clothing edges).
Each video is scripted to stay concise. The early episodes are read a bit slowly, so feel free to watch at 2x speed.
Over time, I speak faster and with a brighter tone—hope you enjoy the change.
Also, to enrich our content, I value speed.In 2025, I'll complete 100 videos.
（I somehow managed to complete it!）
