■ #5291. heldio の「英語史の古典的名著 Baugh and Cable を読む」シリーズが順調に進んでいます [voicy][heldio][hel_education][link][notice][bchel]

　今年の7月17日に開始した Voicy 「英語の語源が身につくラジオ (heldio)」でのシリーズ企画が，毎週1～2回のペースで順調に進んでいます．Baugh, Albert C. and Thomas Cable. A History of the English Language. 6th ed. London: Routledge, 2013. という著名な英語史の本を，原文で毎回1セクションずつゆっくり精読していくというオンライン読書会です．英語の文章の1文1文を精読していくわけではないのですが，表現や文法の気になる点を指摘して厳密に解釈したり，セクションの内容について英語史の観点から深掘りするなど，テキストを元にして縦横無尽に「英語史する」企画です．シリーズ開始時の記事「#5205. Baugh and Cable の英語史概説書を1節ずつ読み進めながら Voicy heldio で自由にコメントしていく試みを始めています」 ([2023-07-28-1]) をご参照ください．
　おかげさまで，ゆっくりペースながらも第18節の "Armenian" までたどり着いています（こちらの最新回は昨日より配信されています．さらにこの回は比較的短いこともあり，特別にサンプル回として該当節のテキスト全文を概要欄に載せています）．また，シリーズへの参加メンバーも夏の間にじわじわと増えてきており，毎回の配信のコメント欄を通じてメンバー間のやりとりも行なわれるようになってきています．各回は有料配信ですが，第1チャプターは常に試聴可能となっていますので，関心のある方は雰囲気をご確認いただければと思います（料金はウェブブラウザ経由で200円なのに対して，Voicy アプリ経由では320円と手数料により割高となりますので，ぜひ前者からどうぞ）．
　本ブログ hellog や Voicy heldio などを通じて英語史への関心が湧いた方や，しっかりと書かれた英語で英文解釈力を鍛えたい方にはお薦めのオンライン読書会シリーズとなっています．実際，よく書かれた英語で精読対象としてふさわしい英文ですので，この点は保証します（精読の練習には，対象が良い英文であることが絶対の条件です）．
　読書会なのでB&Cのテキストが手元にないと参加しにくいという事情はあるかと思います．ぜひ上記よりご購入くださるか，あるいは古書や図書館での入手も結構かと思います．これから入手される場合には，改訂が重ねられてきた本であることに注意し，最新版である第6版を手に取っていただければと思います．オンライン読書会では第6版をベースに読み進めています．ただし，先立つ第5版などしか入手できないという場合でも，内容把握には大きな問題はありませんし，私自身の手元にも第5版や第4版がありますので，必要に応じて異同を確認できます．オンライン読書会の長所を活かし，メンバー間でインタラクティヴに「精読交流」もできますし，各自ご都合のよいタイミングとペースで無理なく読み進められるのもメリットかと思います．参加メンバーからの要望を受け，今後はたまに生実況回やゲスト講師を招いての精読回などもやってみようかとも企画中です．
