■ #387. trisociation と triset [lexicology][latin][greek][lexical_stratification]

　[2010-03-27-1]の記事で英語語彙の三層構造を紹介した．その記事では，foe, enemy, adversary などの三語一組の例を挙げ，それぞれ (1) 英語本来語，(2) フランス借用語，(3) ラテン・ギリシャ借用語の層をなしていることを示した．英語語彙に見られるこの特異な三層構造を言い表す術語がないかなと思っていたが，McArthur が trisociation と呼んでいるのをみつけた．この三語一組のことは triset と呼んでいる．
　ただ，McArthur の trisociation は，(1) 英語本来語，(2) フランス語・ラテン語，(3) ギリシャ語というように層別しているようで，上述の foe の例の層別とは異なる．実際には四層あるものを三層に分けて考えているのだからこのようなヴァリエーションもありうるが，語という単位ではなく形態素という単位で考える場合には McArthur の層別のほうがうまくいく．McArthur が挙げている triset の例を再掲する（主に本来語が b-, n-, s- で始まる triset の例）．
